LET THINGS HAPPEN OR MAKE THINGS HAPPEN

This is an article of many years ago, but the advice is timeless. And when implemented, it can make an exceptional difference.

Fear of the unknown is one of the biggest demotivators in life. Fear can immobilise the strongest person. Fear of the future has made men into mice. They fear the unknown and therefore hold to the past. The losers in life say they fear that the worst will happen to them.

Losers are pessimists but winners make things happen and are optimists. Winners know that they are in charge of fully 90 percent of everything in their lives. They believe in doing everything they can to make a marriage work, to succeed at business and to enjoy life. They do not fear the future because they can create their own future. They are in control of their lives. Winners have a broad view on reality - losers are narrow-minded and go through life in a tunnel vision. Anything outside their tunnel is not true or evil. You have a choice to overcome your fears and take control of your life and make things happen. If you follow the SEVEN EASY STEPS TO TAKE CONTROL, you too can be a winner.

STEP ONE: DECIDE TO DO SOMETHING
The most important step is to decide to do something with your life. You can make the difference by doing something. Take control of your actions, reactions and emotions. Accept full responsibility for everything you do. A new world will open to you. Youu will see reality in a different light. You will find that life does not owe you anything but that you have to give to live your very best. That is the challenge every winner takes daily. Remember that beginning is half won!

STEP TWO: FIND YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE
In setting your goals, make a list of ten (10) things you desire the most. Ask yourself ‘What do I want or be more than anything else in life?’ Take that one thing and forget the rest.

Concentrate on that one thing and make that your purpose. But remember to look first in your own field of work to achieve your goal in life. The grass only seems greener on the other side. You might be working on your own acres of diamonds. Ask yourself what would a creative person, with knowledge, do with your job? Then be that creative, knowledgeable person and be the best you can be.

STEP THREE: GET THE NECESSARY INFORMATION
So you have set your goal to be a better husband, become the next manager of make a million rand. The question is how to go about achieving it? You heard the saying, ‘When. all else fails, read the instructions!’ It is very basic but, it is true. We know we should have all the facts before we start moving towards a goal, but so often we go in half ready, and wind up with a job half baked - or worse! Where do you get your daily information about living? Set out to get. the best information about being a good husband, a good manager, how to make a million or whatever. You won't get that information by just reading the newspapers.

STEP FOUR: SET ACTION STEPS
List all the possible reasons you can think of why you are not what you want to be. What stands in your way to become the best father, husband or manager? Write all the reasons down on the piece of paper with your goal. What will it take to overcome that obstacle? Make a list of every step you have to take to overcome the obstacles. You will notice that most of time you must make internal changes. That is the next step.

STEP FIVE: CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE
Nobody :can make external changes without internal changes. You have to become a good husband, father; a manager, etc. inside before you can be that outside. Look to other people who have been there where you want to go. Ask them what it takes to become a millionaire. Start acting inside like you have achieved your goal already. Think win. Be that person inside.

STEP SIX: PLAN
Without a plan you are planning to fail. Where will you start? Start with the things that is easy to change. If you want to run in the Comrades next year, set a goal to run 1 km in ten minutes. Set a time table as well. ‘Tomorrow, at 6 am, I will run (and walk) for one kilometre in about ten minutes.’ Then you can plan the next day and the day after that . . . Be reasonable in your planning. ROME. was not built in one day. Nobody wins the Comrades on luck. It started with the first steps, and with dedication. Set goals to achieve what you really desire.

  • Make the goal your own. Make it personal; what you want to do and not someone, else's.
  • Set goals with deadlines. Short term goals, up to six months, long range goals, from six months to five years and so on.
  • Set specific goals. How much, how far, when, where, who and how.
  • Commit your goals to writing.
  • Set goals that you can measure.
  • Set goals with pulling power. Goals must challenge you to do a bit better than you did previously.
  • Set goals that will benefit other people and nature. Selfish goals lead nowhere, fast.

STEP SEVEN: STICK TO YOUR PLAN
Don't be discouraged if you stumble on the way. Nobody is a failure unless he gives up the game of life. You must decide to carry on no matter what. You might have to adjust your goals or set other time limits, but don't be discouraged. Stick to your dream. Give it your best shot. Read your goals every day. Look for ways to improve on yesterday's performance. Seek help from people around you. Just don't give up! If your dream is important enough for you, you know it is worth the effort.

You have overcome your fears and indecision by doing something about your future. The choices you make today will determine if you are still in charge of your future. You can make the difference!

GO AND DO IT. IT’S YOUR CHOICE!
