Cyberdoc completes 38 manuals for payroll system
A suite of 38 manuals, made up of three different sets was
completed for Cyborg Systems (Africa). The process of producing these
manuals were done primarily from using the actual software. There was
minimal existing source material, although this still had to be verified
by the subject matter expert (SME).
"The project was not without its problems," Colin Dunbar said. "The
main reason for this was that there was one subject matter expert, and
three technical writers." A hurdle in the project was having the SME not
dedicated to the documentation project. He had to divide his time between
the documentation and other responsibilities.
Even with the original project being increased from 31 to 38 manuals,
the project was still completed successfully. The documentation was
produced following the OneStop Doc principles, developed by The
Gottfredson Group in the USA. The OneStop principle means that only one
set of documentation is produced, serving the purpose of user manuals and
training documentation. Developing documentation using this principle,
meant the documentation was produced in Microsoft word, linked to
Doc-To-Help (from WexTech). This enables the original Word document to be
used to create online Help and a CD published document.
The documentation was produced for the Industrial Payroll system of
Cyborg Systems, and has already been forwarded to Chicago, London, and
other parts of the world.
